Our Forever Family

Thanks to an understanding and gracious judge, our adoption finalization date was moved up from 6 months post-placement to just over two months. That meant that we were able to be sealed as a Forever Family before Daddy had to leave on deployment. This was such an enormous blessing, we could write a whole post just about how grateful we are for it. Tristan is now sealed to us for time and all eternity. It is the true culmination of years worth of prayers and hopes and tears. We could not be happier.

Dank eines verstaendnisvollem Richter, wurde unsere Adoption schon nach 2 Monaten legalisiert, obwohl es normalerweise 6 Monate dauert. Das hiess, das wir als Familie fuer immer aneinander gesiegelt werden konnten, bevor Papa nach Afghanistan gehen musste. Was fuer ein immenser Segen das fuer uns war, wir koennten eine ganze Geschichte darueber schreiben wie dankbar wir dafuer sind. Tristan ist jetzt fuer immer und ewig unser Sohn, das Ergebniss unser jahrelangen Gebete, Hoffnungen und Traenen. Wir koennten nicht gluecklicher sein!

We had planned on being sealed in one of the Utah temples, probably Salt Lake. But since so many of our friends and family would not have been able to be there with us, we decided to forgo the big trip, and chose to be sealed in the Nashville temple instead. When we told people that this was our plan, our wonderful sister and brother-in-law Becky and Will quickly made plans to come to Nashville and be there with us for the sealing. Even though they could only stay one night, it meant so much to us that they hopped on a plane to be with us for the most important day of our lives (so far.) We picked them up in Nashville and then showed them some of the sights, hung out at Wild Horse Saloon, one of our favorite Nashville stops, and generally just enjoyed being together.

Wir hatten eigentlich geplant in einem Tempel in Utah gesiegelt zu werden, aber da so viele von unserer Familie und Freunden nicht dabei sein konnten, entschieden wir uns gegen eine Reise nach Utah und entschlossen uns fuer den Tempel hier in Nashville. Als wir unsere Plaene bekanntgaben, haben unser toller Schwager Will und Schwaegerin Becky einen Flug zu uns gebucht um bei der Sieglung dabei sein zu koennen. Obwohl sie bloss eine Nacht bleiben konnten, hat es uns soviel bedeutet, dass sie an dem wichtigsten Ereignis in unserem Leben (bisjetzt) teilhaben wollten. Wir holten sie vom Flughafen ab, zeigten ihnen ein paar Sehenswuerdigkeiten und verbrachten eine Weile im Wildhorse Saloon, eines unserer Lieblingsrestaurants in Nashville, und hatten eine schoene Zeit zusammen.

We even tried our hand (feet) at the line dancing that is taught there. It is a great place. Food is fantastic, live music and free line dance lessons. Doesn't get more Nashville than that! I think this was Tristan's first official dance. We hope he expands his repertoir beyond line dancing.

Wir haben uns sogar beim Line-tanz versucht, welchen sie dort kostenlos lehren. Es ist echt eine tolle Attraktion, das Essen ist fantastisch, live Musik und Line-Tanz. Nashville pur! Ich glaube, das war Tristan's erster offizieller Tanz. Hoffentlich bleibt es nicht nur beim Line-tanzen.

It was such a great day with Will and Becky. Too bad it was raining the whole day, so we were kinda stuck in the Wild Horse. But it is a fun place, and we had a great time with them. That night we drove back to Clarksville and bedded down, so we could be fresh for the big sealing the next day.

Wir hatten so einen schoenen Tag mit Will und Becky. Schade bloss, dass es den ganzen Tag geregnet hat und wir in dem Wildhorse Saloon festsassen, aber zum Glueck gibt es dort viel zu tun und wir hatten viel Spass zusammen. Abends sind wir dann nach Hause gefahren und ins Bett gefallen, damit wir am naechsten Tag frisch und munter fuer unsere Sieglung waren. 

This is one of the first pictures taken of us as a Forever Family. We are so very blessed to have this little miracle in our lives. And to know that he is ours forever is the sweetest gift we have ever been given. Our hearts are so full of gratitude for everyone who was involved - our Angel, her whole family, our Aunt Chris, and just everyone who had a hand in helping us get to this one perfect moment.

 Das ist eines der ersten Bilder von uns als ewige Familie. Wir sind so gesegnet mit unserem kleinen Wunder, und zu wissen dass er jetzt fuer immer zu uns gehoert, ist das schoenste Geschenk, welches wir jemals bekommen haben. Unsere Herzen sind voller Dankbarkeit fuer alle die, die eine Hand in unserem Glueck hatten - unser Engel, ihre Familie, unsere Tante Chris, und alle anderen die uns zu diesem perfekten Moment gefuehrt haben.

 The day had some extra special surprises and sweet moments. Several of our friends from church came down to be with us for the occasion, which was awesome of them. A completely unexpected surprise was that Peter Blaser, our old bishop and close friend (and the man who called Dan to be one of his Bishopric counselors) came all the way down from Calgary Canada to be with us. He has always been so supportive and encouraging for us in our infertility struggle, and the joy on his face was obvious when our family was sealed. It is such a blessing to be loved and cared for by friends of such an incredibly high caliber. 

Der Tag hatte soviele wunderschoene Ueberaschungen und Momente. Einige unserer Freunde von der Kirche kamen in den Tempel um mit uns zu sein, was einfach toll war. Ein komplett unerwarteter Besuch von Peter Blaser, unser frueherer Bischof und enger Freund ( Dan wurde von ihm in die Bischofschaft berufen), der von Calgary, Kanada gekommen war um mit uns zu sein. Er war immer fuer uns da und zeigte Vestaendnis und Unterstuetzung in unserem Kampf mit Unfruchtbarkeit. Die Freude in seinem Gesicht war so gross als er uns nun am Ziel unserer Traeume sah. Wir fuehlen uns so gesegnet Freunde zu haben, die so toll sind.

The next day, Sunday, was Tristan's blessing. His little blessing suit that Gramma Tamera gave him was completely adorable! And he was so well behaved. Just cooed a few times during the blessing. We were so incredibly happy that our Angel birthmom and her mother could be here with us for both the sealing and the blessing. It was a perfect Easter Sunday.

 Am naechsten Tag, Sonntag war Tristan's Segnung. Der kleine Anzug, den Gramma Tamera ihm gegeben hat ist einfach suess. Und Tristan hat sich so gut benommen, hat nur ein paar kleine Laute von sich gegeben waehrend der Segnung. Wir sind froh, dass unser Engel-Geburtsmutter und ihre Mutti fuer die Sieglung und die Segnung dabei sein konnten. Es war ein perfekter Ostersonntag.

The suit was a little bit big on him, but at this point he was still just a little bit small. He is growing and progressing so well, though. Catching up to his "normal" milestones like a champ. Everyone at church fawns over him, and completely adores him.

 Der Anzug war zwar ein bisschen zu gross, aber da war er ja auch noch ein bisschen klein. Er waechst und gedeiht so gut und holt schon ganz schoen auf. In der Kirche sind alle so begeistert von Tristan.

After the blessing, we all came back home to our place. Will and Becky had to fly out the day before, right after the sealing. But the rest of us just enjoyed a lazy Sunday, passing Tristan around for a non-stop stream of cuddles. This photo of him sleeping with Momma Kait is precious to us, and probably will be for him. Everyone who has ever been in this boy's life loves him dearly.

 Nach der Segnung, sind wir alle nach Hause. Will und Becky mussten leider schon den Abend zuvor nach hause fliegen, aber der Rest von uns genoss einen ruhigen Sonntag. Tristan machte die Runde und kuschelte die ganze Zeit mit uns. Dieses Photo von ihm schlafend auf seiner Geburtsmutter bedeutet uns sehr viel und wird hoffentlich auch ihm viel bedeuten. Jeder in Tristan's Leben liebt ihn sehr!

 

Gramma Tamera was so happy to be able to spend some quality time with him, and he seemed completely content to just sleep through all the attention. I guess when you are this cute, it is normal for everyone to want to hold you all the time.

 Gramma Tamera war so gluecklich die Gelegenheit zu haben, Zeit mit Tristan zu haben und zu kuscheln und Tristan schien es zu moegen und schlief die ganze Zeit friedlich.  Wenn man so suess ist wie Tristan, ist es normal das einen alle halten wollen.

Grandma Verna got a chance to feed and burp him, but wasn't used to the NICU's upright burping technique. Once we got her trained up, he was belching like a pro. Grandma got skills! It was so great to see her with her newest grandchild. We are so happy that she was able to make the trip out here to be with us.

 Grandma Verna durfte ihn auch schon fuettern und versuchte sich beim Baeuerchen, aber war nicht an die Technik gewoehnt, die man uns auf der Intensivstation beigebracht hatte. Nachdem wir sie trainiert hatten, machte Tristan Baeuerchen wie ein Profi. Es war so schoen Verna mit ihrem neusten Enkelsohn zu sehen. Wir sind gluecklich, dass sie die Reise zu uns gemacht hat, um bei uns zu sein fuer diese tollen Ereignisse.

Momma Kait has a beautiful voice, and she and Dan sang some songs together. We hope that Tristan inherits some of her artistic talent. Dan really wants to do musical things with him. He keeps talking about forming a band. Dana will be the manager.

 Momma Kait hat eine wunderschoene Stimme, sie und Dan sangen einige Lieder zusammen. Wir hoffen das Tristan ihr tolles Talent geerbt hat. Dan moechte wirklich sehr musikalisch mit Tristan sein....will eine Band gruenden, mit Dana als Manager.

The next morning we all took a walk. It was a beautiful day, just a little cool but sunny. Having the ladies ordered by height was not intentional, it just worked out that way. These are the leading ladies in Tristan's life. The one who gave him life, the one who will guide him through his life, and the two who will attempt to spoil him his whole life.

Am naechsten Morgen sind wir alle spazieren gegangen, es war ein wunderschoener Tag, ein bisschen kuehl, aber sonnig. Es war nicht unsere Absicht nach Groesse geordnet zu sein, ist einfach so passiert. ;) Dies sind die Hauptfrauen in Tristan's Leben, eine die ihm das Leben gegeben hat, eine die ihn durch sein Leben leiten wird, und zwei die ihn sehr verwoehnen werden.

We have said this several times before, but it still bears repeating: we are so happy that we have a warm and loving relationship with our birthfamily. Momma Kait really is an angel to us - she brought us the greatest blessing we have ever received. And her whole family has been so great, especially Gramma Tamera. They have shown us nothing but love and appreciation, in spite of how emotionally difficult things must have been for them at times. We love them for that, too.

 Wir haben es schon oefters betont, aber wir koennen uns nicht oft genug wiederholen, wir sind so dankbar das wir eine so angenehme und liebe Beziehung zu Tristan's Geburtsfamilie haben. Momma Kait ist wirklich ein Engel fuer uns - sie hat uns die groesste Segnung gegeben, die wir jemals erhalten haben. Und ihre ganze Familie ist so gut zu uns, besonders Gramma Tamera. Sie haben uns bisjetzt nur Liebe und Wertschaetzung gezeigt, obwohl es fuer sie eine sehr schwierige emotionale Zeit ist. Wir lieben sie, besonders deswegen.

We feel like Tristan is an especially lucky young man. He has more loving family members than most, and all the different sides of his family cherish and adore him. We fear that our biggest problem is going to be finding a place to store all the gifts and toys he is going to get from his 3 grandmas, countless aunts and uncles, and who knows how many cousins. But that is a pretty good problem to have, all things considered.

Wir denken, dass Tristan ein ganz besonderer Glueckspilz ist. Er hat mehr liebende Familienmitglieder als meist andere und alle verschiedenen Seiten seiner Familie lieben ihn. Wir glauben unser groesstes Problem wird sein, die ganzen Geschenke zu verstauen, die er von seinen 3 Omas und Opas, unzaehligen Tanten und Onkels, und wer weiss wievielen Cousins bekommt. Wenn man bedenkt, ist das ein gutes Problem, was man haben kann.
