August: The biggest event in August was that Dan was (finally) promoted to Captain! No more Lt. Dan jokes!

The Army messed up and didn't promote Dan until a year and a half late, but better late than never, right?

August: Das Beste was in diesem Monat passiert ist, war Dan's Befoerderung zum Captain. Jetzt kann keiner mehr Lt. Dan Witze reissen!

Die Armee hatte es total verpatzt und Dan's Befoerderung war schon ueber ein Jahr faellig. Naja, zum Glueck hat er es jetzt rueckwirkend bekommen.

LTC H. Taylor did the honors of promoting Dan. He gave a great speech and good words of encouragement.

Unser Freund, ein Lieutenant Colonel hat Dan die Ehre erwiesen und ihm die Befoerderung ausgesprochen. Er hielt eine gute Rede, mit vielen Ratschlaegen fuer die Zukunft.

Of course, Dana then got to "pin the rank on" by tearing off the old LT rank - which she then threw across the plaza - and then replacing it with the new Captain rank. She sealed the deal by hitting Dan as hard as she could in the chest, which is an old Army tradition to make the rank "stick."

Und natuerlich durfte Dana das offizielle Abreissen des Rankes tun und auch das Anstecken des neuen Rankes, das ist eine alte Armeetradition. Ausserdem musste sie Dan so ordentlich auf die Brust hauen, was sie so gut machte, das Dan einen Schritt nach hinten nahm.

All of the coworkers from Dan's clinic showed up to congratulate him on the promotion and all his hard work.

Alle Mitarbeiter von Dan's Buero kamen zur Zeremonie und beglueckwuenschten ihn fuer seine Befoerderung und lobten ihn fuer all seine harte Arbeit.

What you can't tell from the picture is that it was incredibly hot that afternoon. We were all dripping wet by the time the ceremony was done.

Was man von den Bildern nicht erkennen kann, ist das es sehr sehr heiss war an dem Tag. Uns lief der Schweiss aus allen Poren.

We had a few little refreshments, and some people were able to hang out with us and chat for a while. Too bad it was so hot - it was impossible to really enjoy ourselves. Everyone was in a hurry to get back into the air-conditioning.

Wir hatten ein kleines Buffet mit erfrischenden Knabbereien hergerichtet, so das man sich noch unterhalten konnte, aber es war so heiss, dass man wirklich nicht lange bleiben wollte. Jeder wollte zurueck in sein Buero, welches Klimaanlage hat.

Two of the people who came out for the ceremony were Strati Y and Rich L, from our ward and neighborhood respectively, who welcomed Dan into the fraternity of Army Captains.

Hier ist Dan mit zwei seiner Freunde, Strati von unserer Gemeinde und Rich, unser Nachbar. Beide sind schon Captain und haben Dan gebuehrend in den Rank der Captains aufgenommen.

It was great to have LTC Taylor there to perform the ceremony, especially since his whole family have become like family to us.

Es war wirklich schoen das unser Freund Hank die Zeremonie durchfuehren konnte, denn er und seine ganze Familie sind unsere Familie hier geworden.

Now Dan officially outranks our dog, since Louie is still a Louie, lol.

Jetzt hat Dan wirklich einen hoeheren Rank als Louie, denn einen Lieutenant nennt man hier auch Louie. ;)

It was a long time in coming, and more than a little bit of a hassle to get the promotion done, but it is a huge relief now that it has happened. Dan is moving up in the world! It is so good to see him get acknowledged for all his hard work and dedication to his soldiers.

Es hat wirklich unglaublich lange gedauert bis Dan endlich seine Befoerderung bekommen hat, aber jetzt koennen wir erleichtert sein. Dan erobert die Welt im Sturm.... ;)  Es ist wirklich gut zu sehen, dass seine harte Arbeit und seine Hingabe den Soldaten zu helfen endlich belohnt wurde.

The whole month was so incredibly hot that we just wanted to hide out in the AC. So we slugged around the house with Louie a lot.

Den ganzen Monat ueber war es hier extrem heiss und wir wollten selten unser kuehles Haus verlassen, also haben wir viel Zeit zuhause verbracht....viel mit Louie gekuschelt,

We can't be in the same room for too long without teasing or playing around some way. Sometimes, the most fun we have is when we do absolutely nothing, but do it together.

oder zusammen Faxen gemacht. Manchmal ist am Schoensten einfach nichts zu tun, solange man zusammen ist.
