It was supposed to be a trip together up to Chicago to finally meet our niece Maia, but in the end Dan's pass from the Army was cancelled and he couldn't make the trip with me. Poor Dan had to stay home and work....boo!
So it was just the girls driving up to Chicago. We made the 8 hour drive safely and got there right before nighttime. The next morning we woke up to delicious pancakes made by Dan's brother Jesse. Yummy!
After getting to know Maia for a bit we were off to the aquarium and boy was it huge. Aspen and Maia were just in awe and had such a good time.
As for me I really enjoyed the jellyfish exhibition. They had so many different kinds and I was just mesmerized watching them. Aren't they cool?
We also saw a little show with dolphins and sea lions ala Seaworld and it was actually pretty good.
They also had a playground across from the penguins where the kids could pretend to be penguins by wearing a little costume.
You can't really tell from this picture but Aspen was wearing the costume and was one cute penguin.
After hours of fun we ate at a really yummy Italian restaurant and planned on going into the city to listen to some live bands, but everyone voted for staying in...too tired. ;)
CHICAGO!
The next morning we went on a walk and grabbed some breakfast before heading to Lake Michigan.
We rented a couple of kayaks and paddled to a sunken ship and the whole time I felt so bad, cause Dan would've loved it. He is always talking about kayaking.
It was really cool and we had a great and fun time.
For lunch Jesse took us to some insider place with the best burgers and fries. OMG, those fries were heavenly! We also happened to be at the right place at the right time, cause we snagged some free cupcakes from a bakery who was advertising the opening of their store. Delicious!
After lunch it was time for me to drive back to Clarksville. Dan's mom and sister stayed a couple more days and flew back from Chicago. So I went on my lonely 8 hour drive which I thought wouldn't be too bad after all I drove 16 hours to visit Dan at basic training just a couple of months ago. Boy was I wrong....I was caught in the worst storm and that for 6 hours! It was so bad I think I had an anxiety attack. I really thought I was gonna die. Luckily my cell phone worked and Dan was able to calm me down and get me home. The time in Chicago was awesome, but I don't ever want to experience a drive like that again.
Maia is just the cutest and it was so much fun to be able to get to know her a little.
