At the end of July I was able to go on a trip to Nauvoo with the youth from church. It is such a great place to visit, so I jumped at the opportunity to go.
One of the first things you see when driving into the city is the beautiful temple. Simply breathtaking!
I volunteered to be one of the kitchen workers, which meant getting up at the crack of dawn for breakfast. Yay me. ;)
Luckily we had enough helpers, so we all had the chance to explore Nauvoo when it wasn't our shift to be in the kitchen. My friend Jen and I were able to visit some of the historic buildings where missionaries show you how stuff was made back in the day, like bread, quilts, ropes or candles.
We also made it into the temple and had a very spiritual time there, which we will treasure forever.
The youth were split into family groups and learned about the life of the Saints back in the 1840's. They had such a good time and really enjoyed their time there.
One day we were able to go visit Carthage jail, where the prophet Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum were killed by a mob. Every time I've been here I have felt the spirit very strongly.
Unfortunately I also got hurt while on the trip and the last few days in Nauvoo I was in pain and had a hard time getting around with my swollen foot. We thought it was broken, but when I got home, I got it x-rayed and luckily it was only severely sprained. I had to sport a boot for a couple of weeks, but it healed pretty quickly. ;)
This is me being funny while making sandwiches in the kitchen. Can you see the shocked faces in the background.....it's just pickle juice people. ;)
Yummy subway sandwiches for the long bus ride home. I think we rode the bus for over 8 hours each way.
Group picture!!!
I also learned about planking on this trip, lol
What a great few days I was able to spend in Nauvoo! This time around I was even able to see the pageant, which was one of the highlights of the trip. If you ever have the chance to go to Nauvoo, do it! It's so worth it!
