Catch up: Trip to Utah (September 2011)

The end of August we had the opportunity to take some time off and fly to Salt Lake City to visit family and friends. Only Dan's mom and our friends Jake and Terrisa knew we were coming. Dan's sister Chandelle was turning 30 and we wanted to surprise her. We stayed with our friends to minimize the chances of ruining the surprise and because we love hanging out with them. The first day we pretty much stayed at their home and just relaxed.

In the evening the family met a local creamery to celebrate and that's when we made our big entrance. It was priceless to see everyone's face, especially Chandelle's. It was perfect. We enjoyed a great dinner together and had fun catching up with everyone.

The next day we went for some shopping at our favorite store, the U of U bookstore and bought enormous amounts of fan clothing. ;) In the evening we met with Jake and Terrisa at the Rice-Eccles stadium and enjoyed the Utes home opener. Awesome!!! We miss being able to go to all the home games and we are lucky if they show a game on tv out here in Tennessee, so this was a treat for us.
The next day we met with family at a park and had a big birthday BBQ for Chandelle. We got to see grandma, some of Dan's uncles and aunts and a few cousins, which was great!
The next day we had the privilege to attend the sealing of our good friends Cody and Amanda at the Salt Lake temple. They live in Clarksville too and we are in the same ward and became good friends. They have been married for a year and Amanda was pregnant at the time of the sealing which made it even more special.
We were so happy for them and had a great time at the luncheon where we got to know their wonderful families as well.
After the luncheon we went up to Sundance and stayed with our friends Jake and Terrisa in a cabin. We played and laughed our hearts out, like we always do and had a jolly good time. We went on a walk and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.
We miss Utah and those beautiful mountains!
Dan of course had to chillax in the hammock a lot....that's what vacation is all about!

Terrisa loves to play with my hair and I love it when she does. These are a few of many beautiful creations she did with my hair.

Friends like Jake and Terrisa are hard to find and we are so grateful to have them in our lives. We love them dearly!

After Sundance we went up to Bob and Verna's property by Echo Lake. All the family was there and we enjoyed a couple of nice days up in the mountains.
Four-wheeling is always part of our things to do while we are there and we had perfect weather to enjoy our rides together.

We also met our niece Alana, who was born in May and what a cutie she is. I enjoyed holding her and I even got her to fall asleep in my arms, which I was told was the first time that she had done that, other than for her parents. :)
We also had the chance to celebrate Becky's birthday. Will, her husband, surprised her with a family BBQ and what a feast it was. I think we gained quite a bit on this trip, eating out all the time at our favorite restaurants, that we don't have in TN and attending all the BBQ's. On our last day we also visited Dan's grandpa, who is in his late 80's. He is such a nice old man and always has the coolest stories. Dan really adores him.

It was a great trip and a lot of fun seeing everyone and spending time with them all. It always goes by too fast....sadly.
