Catch up: Gardening (June 2011)

After coming back from Germany we had to hurry and start our vegetable garden. Since our backyard had limited space, we thought we should try our luck with container gardening. ;)
I found a great deal on these kiddie pools and the hanging baskets we still had from when we lived in Denver.
We bought a few plants, like tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers at Lowes and the rest we started
out as seeds.
The plants grew fast and well and even though we didn't start them earlier than June, we did get to harvest quite a few things. Unfortunately not all the seeds produced fruit, but there is always next year. ;)
We learned that putting a zucchini plant in the middle is not quite the way to go, lol. We also had to battle tobacco hornworms on our tomato plants, which turned into a new hobby of ours, caterpillar to butterfly metamorphosis.
It was so enjoyable and gratifying to just go outside and pick a vegetable to eat or to use for a recipe, knowing that you grew it yourself.
We enjoyed LOTS of tomatoes, basil, a few cucumbers and zucchinis, beans and peppers and weird looking radishes.
Can't wait till next year!

That picture of Louie peeking up at the vegetables on the counter is so cute and funny.
