'Twas the week before Christmas
And at the top of the street
Red and blue lights were flashing
From firemen and police.
As Dana pulled in from her
Normal drive home,
She wondered and worried
At why they had come.
There were cops with their flashlights
And EMTs with coats on
And a mysterious white minivan
Parked strangely high on the lawn.
The neighbors had gathered
To wonder and stare
And to see if the Conservatory
Sign was still there.
Then what to our wondering
Eyes should appear
But a woman who said she
Could explain all the stir.
A blackout, she said,
Was to blame for the scene.
Her young brother passed out
And his car had careened.
We all were concerned,
But she said he was fine
No harm to the car,
And no harm to our sign.
Off to the hospital
The ambulance flew
No real damage done
But some med tests to do.
On coppers, on firemen,
On ambulance driver!
On paramedics and
Weird crash survivor!
Then someone proclaimed
As they drove out of sight:
"Merry Christmas. It's cold.
I'm going in. Good night."
