On day 3 we boarded a train in the early morning and rode from London to Edinburgh, Scotland. We were both excited to finally go see Scotland.

We had amazing views of the country and were really glad we made the choice to go by train so we could relax and take everything in.

Not sure what this building is, but it looked out of the ordinary.

I got really hooked on these chips, which are the british version of Lays. Cheese and Onions, really yummy. ;)

The best part about this trip to Scotland was that we met up with our really good friends Christian and Sarah. Christian was the best man at our wedding and we grew up together and became close friends. Him and Sarah live in Switzerland and visited us in Denver 2 years ago.

The views of Edinburgh were just breathtaking. Everything was blooming, the sun was shining and all these historic buildings filled our imaginations. Awesome!

On our way up to Edinburgh castle.

The guards in front of the castle were pretty laid back and we were able to get some pictures with them. (Notice the height difference, lol)

And of course we had to take another shot of these phone booths that were everywhere.

We walked up and down the Royal Mile, did lots of window shopping and enjoyed musicians, artists and the buzz of the city.

All these old buildings were fascinating and of course Dan knew all about their history.

Notice how I changed clothes like 3 times that day, lol? The temperatures dropped drastically, from being warm and sunny to freezing cold and misty.

Wish we could have bought an authentic kilt from Dan's ancestral clan, but first of it we had a hard time finding the pattern of his clan and second, there was no way we could have paid that kind of money. ($600+) But these cheap ones were all over the place.

Another great shot of the Royal Mile which we must have walked up and down like 5 times to find a pub, that we all agreed on, where we would eat dinner at.

This is in front of the Queen's palace, which was closed, but the gate person let us in just so we could take this picture. =)

We were so tired and exhausted by the time we sat down for dinner, which was at like 10pm....but we did try some haggis, the customary dish of Scotland and it was surprisingly good, even though it looked kind of funny.
What a great day!

I'm about to weep. With jealousy.
The British Isles are the #2 place I want to go, very closely behind New York City. NYC is next year. When will England, Scotland and (sigh) Ireland be for me?
It would have been fun to hear Dan go off on all the stories he knows...
I think I have so many family members (on the other side) around me who lived there, it would probably feel like going home. Oh, I would love, love love to go...
So glad you're enjoying yourselves!

I love Edinburgh! Tom and I liked it best of all the places we went in the U.K. It sounds like you guys had a fantastic trip!
Ruth said: I am enjoying reading about your trip. You captured great pictures. How fun to be able to relax and enjoy the view while riding the train. That was nice of them to let you past the gate to take a picture in front of the Queen's palace.
